My love life is complicated; or, I love a praying mantis.

Mmm, spring. Flowers bloom, herb gardens get herby, and strawberries berry. And also, bugs.

Now I am down with the invertebrates, but if given the choice? Gnats, aphids & mosquitoes can go hang.

That’s where my love comes in. Praying mantis can chomp down on serious pest action. Seeing em nab a fly out of midair? A thing of beauty. Plus, they’re really cute, what with the head-cocking-like-a-puppy thing. See?

He’s my new heartthrob, and he’s about the length of the tip of my index finger. Isn’t he dreamy? I think he may be related to the beautiful mantis I saw last year. They do like to stick to a territory. (Hooray for that!)

So, he & me, perfect right? Well, I think so. But for the past week I’ve been seeing a beautiful red robin bob-bob-bobbing along in my yard, on my cable lines and along my neighbors fence. I worry my red robin may spy my wonderful mantis.

First World Problems, lemme show you them.

(But lookit that faaaaaace!)
